The journey to promotion to the NWFL Premiership began today in Abia State, with four games on the front burner and teams looking to start out their hunt for a place in the league's top tier on a strong note.
The curtain raiser for the Championship was the games between Royal Queens and Gallant Queens in Group A1, and Pelican Stars against Ahudiyannem Queens in the second group, B1.
Ahudiyannem Queens got their first win of the Championship courtesy of two first-half goals against Pelican Stars, to start off their campaign on a high.

In the second game that went down concurrently at 9 a.m., it was a stalemate between Royal Queens and Gallant Queens, as the two teams struggled to edge each other out.
In the 12 p.m. kick-off, CastMog Ladies faced off against First Mahi Babes and saw them off 3-1, with goals from Damilola Adeyanju, Temitope Dosunmu, and Zainab Odueke.
Also at noon, Chosen Generation Angels took on Wazbak Queens in Group B1 and grabbed a slim one-nil win, courtesy of Rasheedat Lateef's 20th-minute goal.
Sunshine Queens took on Fortress Ladies in the first fixture for Group A2, but the game had to be halted after 23 minutes due to the heavy downpour.
Imo Striker Queens were cruising to a dominant four-nil victory over Delta Babes, but the game was also halted in the 71st minute due to the weather.
Kwara United Ladies were also scheduled to face Unification Ladies, while Moje Queens were set to face Ghetto Tigers, but both games—alongside the halted fixtures—have now been rescheduled to tomorrow, Sunday, 13th September.
