Bayelsa Queens Blaze Past ASKO to Reach CAFWCL Qualifiers Semi-Finals

Bayelsa Queens stormed into the semi-finals of the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B qualifiers with a convincing 3-0 win over Togo’s ASKO FC at the YamaStade du Lycée Scientifique in Ivory Coast.

The Prosperity Girls, fresh off a 2-1 opening win against Ghana’s Police Ladies, began on the front foot, pinning ASKO deep with relentless attacking play. Shakirat Moshood proved a constant menace down the left flank, though her efforts failed to break the deadlock.

The Togolese side nearly stole the lead in the 42nd minute when a loose touch from Oluwabunmi Oladeji gifted Augustine a clear chance, but goalkeeper Monle Omini produced a sharp low save to keep the score level. The half ended goalless despite Bayelsa’s dominance.

Barely two minutes after the restart, Bayelsa’s pressure paid off. A long throw from Sefiat Idris found Enem Essien, whose flick forced defender Onumonu Bani into an own goal for 1-0.

The lead was doubled in the 53rd minute when Janet Akekoromowei delivered a precise cross that Alaba Olabiyi met with a towering header.

Bayelsa sealed the game in the 70th minute. Idris again turned provider, whipping in a ball that Moshood struck sweetly with her left foot for her second goal of the qualifiers.

Standout Performer

Midfielder Vera Samuel earned the Player of the Match award after dictating play with composure and vision throughout the contest.

With two wins from two, Nigeria’s sole continental representatives advance confidently to the semi-finals, where they will await confirmation of their next opponent.
