After clinching the U-20 WAFU-B Girls Cup title yesterday in Benin, Nigeria’s Falconets rounded off their campaign in style with another victory — this time against hosts Benin Republic.
The Falconets maintained a perfect and unbeaten record throughout the tournament, beginning with a 3-1 win over Ghana, before defeating Benin 3-0 in their second game.
They met Ghana again on Matchday 3 in what turned out to be the title-deciding clash, and once more, the Falconets proved superior, sealing their place as champions of the competition.
In their final and inconsequential fixture today, the team capped off their impressive run with a 1-0 win over Benin Republic, courtesy of Kareem Ramotalahi’s 16th-minute strike.
In total, the Falconets scored 10 goals, conceded just once, and won all four matches — a testament to their complete dominance at the tournament.
As expected, the post-tournament awards were dominated by the Nigerian side.
Christiana Uzoma was named Best Goalkeeper,
Kareem Ramotalahi emerged Top Scorer, while Ghana’s Sarah Nyarko was controversially voted Best Player — a decision that sparked criticism from fans.
The unbeaten streak under coach Moses Aduku continues, as the Falconets once again underline their status as the best in West Africa.
