NUGA 2025 – FUTMINNA, UNIMAID seal progress to next round in football event. UI, UNILAG to discover fate on final group day.

Matchday 2 of the football event at the National University Games (NUGA) delivered shocking results, a big win, and narrow victories, as teams now begin to chase spots in the quarter-finals.

FUTA were awarded a walkover victory against NDU [3-0] to claim their first win of the tournament. The result moves FUTA to third place in Group C, just behind Aliko Dangote University in second.

The University of Ibadan were held to a goalless draw by the University of Calabar, dropping points after defeating LASU on the opening day. UI will now face Usmanu Danfodiyo University in their final group match and must hope that the University of Calabar fail to beat LASU in the other fixture.

Hosts UNIJOS battled to a slim [1-0] win over Fada Adasu University of Makurdi, securing their first victory of the Games after losing on Matchday 1 to Taraba State University.

LASU also recorded their first win at the tournament, defeating Usmanu Danfodiyo University. A win over the University of Calabar on Matchday 3 could put them in contention to finish in the top two of the group.

Ekiti State University (EKSU) also earned their first victory, sealing a [1-0] win over Delta State University, following their thrilling 4-4 draw against KASU on Matchday 1.

As Matchday 3 approaches, all teams will now battle for places in the quarter-finals, with the top two teams from each group set to progress.
