Debutants ASEC Mimosas Shock Holders TP Mazembe in Group B Opener
ASEC Mimosas announced themselves in spectacular fashion at the CAF Women’s Champions League 2025, defeating defending champions TP Mazembe 1–0 in a disciplined and mature display on Matchday 1 in Ismailia.
The Ivorians, competing in the tournament for the first time, broke the deadlock in the 66th minute when Habibou Ouédraogo finished off a well-crafted team move down the right. From that moment, ASEC settled deep, protected central spaces, and forced Mazembe into rushed decisions in the final third.
Mazembe, champions in Morocco last season, never found their usual rhythm. Their crosses lacked precision, second balls were lost too easily, and ASEC’s compact structure frustrated every attempt at a comeback.
The defeat places the holders under early pressure. With a showdown against Gaborone United coming on Wednesday, Mazembe cannot afford another slip if they hope to keep their title defence alive.
For ASEC Mimosas, this landmark victory marks a dream debut and positions them as serious contenders to advance from Group B.
