2025 NWFL Championship Gets Kick-Off Date, Venue

NWFL Championship

Three months after the conclusion of the NWFL Premiership, the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) has announced the official dates and venue for the 2025 NWFL Championship.

The Championship, which serves as the second tier of women’s football in Nigeria, will determine the teams that will earn promotion to the NWFL Premiership for the 2025/26 season.

In a statement released on Monday, August 18, the league’s Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, confirmed that 17 clubs have registered for the competition. The teams will be drawn into four groups, with the group winners securing promotion to the top flight.

This year’s tournament will run from September 11 to 25, 2025, in Abia State.

According to the league's media, all teams are expected to arrive in the host state on September 11, with the draws and pre-match meetings scheduled for the following day. Matches will then kick off on September 13.

The Abiriba Township Stadium and Umuahia Township Stadium have been selected as venues for the tournament, which will wrap up the NWFL calendar for 2025.

"We want to assure all participating teams that the Championship will be conducted under the highest standards of fair play, with a level playing ground for everyone involved.

Our commitment is to ensure that the competition reflects the values of transparency, integrity, and sporting excellence,” — said COO Modupe Shabi in quotes released by the league’s media directorate.
