Nigeria’s D’Tigers kicked off their 2025 AfroBasket Championship campaign in style, defeating Madagascar 77–59 in their opening game in Angola.
Just ten days after the D’Tigress claimed their seventh AfroBasket title, their male counterparts now set their sights on winning only their second championship, aiming to close the gap in continental dominance.
The D’Tigers started the first quarter strongly, taking an 18–14 lead thanks to sharp offensive transitions and solid ball movement.
The second quarter proved more challenging, as Madagascar found their rhythm and outscored Nigeria 23–20. Despite the setback, the Tigers held onto a narrow one-point lead heading into halftime.

The third quarter marked a noticeable shift in momentum. The Nigerians tightened their defense and executed better on offense, extending their advantage to 55–46 heading into the final period.
In the fourth quarter, the D’Tigers kept their foot on the gas, starting aggressively and winning the quarter 22–13 to close out the game.
It ended 77–59 in favor of Nigeria, a strong statement to start their AfroBasket journey.
Caleb Agada delivered a standout performance, recording a game-high 22 points, along with 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals.
