DREAMS ON THE BRINK: THE PENULTIMATE BATTLE FOR BELONGING

NWFL Matchday 13 Preview

As the curtain begins to fall on the regular season, Matchday 13 promises tension, tenacity, and a taste of fate. Three Super Six slots remain—one in Group A and two in Group B. The math is tight, the margins thinner, so we expect a matchday filled with heartbreak, heroics, and maybe a miracle or two. Some clubs stand at the brink of redemption, others near heartbreak—but all will fight beneath the April sun with dreams blazing in their boots. This is not just football. This is the reckoning before the reckoning.

Group A

  • Nasarawa Amazons vs Edo Queens
In this fixture, the crown meets the chasers. Edo Queens have walked with grace and grit, unbeaten and unbothered. But Nasarawa Amazons—fierce, fervent, and still hungry—stand as perhaps their final real test. A win seals Nasarawa’s championship playoffs place. A loss, however, lets shadows creep closer. Expect a match where every blade of grass will feel the weight of ambition.

  • Confluence Queens vs Ekiti Queens
Confluence Queens are out of contention, but the river must still flow. They host an Ekiti Queens side searching for sparks after letting a two point slip last week. For Ekiti, pride remains, and perhaps a prayer for a mid-table finish. This one might just surprise.

  • Dannaz Ladies vs Heartland Queens
Two teams, dancing in the dusk of their seasons. Both teams haven’t forgotten their goalless draw loss in the reverse fixture, and Heartland Queens, after nearly toppling Remo Stars, arrive with a slight spring in their step. Call it a battle for surety—where joy might lie in a clean sheet or a wonder strike.

  • Abia Angels vs Remo Stars Ladies
This is a match laced with playoff tension. Abia Angels are flying high after back-to-back wins, but Remo Stars are wounded and perhaps more dangerous for it. Bolaji Olamide found her rhythm again last week. Now, can she sing again in Abia? A win for Remo seals their playoff seat. Anything less opens the door for late drama and strengthens the possibility of a playoff spot for Coach Adanna's Abia side, especially if Edo Queens condemn Nasarawa Amazons in their tie.

Group B

  • Bayelsa Queens vs Rivers Angels
Top two. Two titans. One state. No mercy. This, right here, is the marquee matchup. Bayelsa’s unbeaten is yet to halt but they did drop some points to sixth-placed Ibom Angels last week. For the visitors, Rivers Angels stormed back with fire in their boots following another Mary Moses hat-trick. These are teams who don’t just play—they perform. A victory here means bragging rights, rhythm, and momentum for the playoffs. Expect fireworks over Yenagoa.

  • Benue Queens vs Adamawa Queens
Benue Queens tasted their first win last week—sweet and sudden like early morning rain. Now they return, still at the bottom, but bolder. Adamawa, too, found a spark, holding Bayelsa at bay. Two sides once written off now write their own endings. One more win, and who knows what stories they’ll tell.

  • Delta Queens vs Naija Ratels
Naija Ratels just shocked Robo. Now they face a Delta side who fell hard in Port Harcourt. With slim playoff hopes still flickering, this could be a game of courage. If Ratels wins, they stay in the chase. If Delta defends home turf, the dream may be gone. Expect a game full of sprints, saves, and maybe a last-gasp decider.

  • Ibom Angels vs FC Robo Queens
FC Robo’s playoff party hit a setback last week in Abuja, but playoff destiny remains in their hands. Ibom Angels have stumbled lately, and Uyo hasn’t quite felt like home. But this is a chance to make a statement. FC Robo needs goals and points. Ibom needs purpose. When stakes are this high, even the grass listens in.
