The much-anticipated Supremacy Cup got underway today with a mix of narrow victories, solid defensive displays, and a few surprises. From Philosophy’s early statement win to Computer Science and Mathematics sharing the spoils, the opening fixtures gave a glimpse of the battles ahead. The Supremacy Cup has only just begun, and if Matchday 1 is anything to go by, there’s plenty more drama ahead. Here is a summary of what went down:
- Close Calls and Hard-Fought Wins
Philosophy edged Public Administration 1-0, thanks to a goal from Philip (Warith), while Accounting also scraped past ASE with a single goal from Soft (Assist: DC) in the 34th minute. These tight wins underline just how competitive the tournament will be.
In the same vein, Sociology couldn’t find a breakthrough against QTS, but Sodiq made sure his side left with all three points, scoring the only goal of the match. Biochemistry also took maximum points against Geology with Emmanuel’s goal proving decisive.
- Computer Science and Mathematics Share the Points
One of the more thrilling encounters saw Computer Science and Mathematics play out a 1-1 draw. Joseph (Assist: Taiwo) struck early for CSC in the 16th minute, but Mathematics responded before halftime with Shubomi finding the net in the 33rd minute. Both sides pushed for a winner, but neither could find the breakthrough. MTH definitely read VDP's comments about their chances!
- Elect/Elect’s Second-Half Spark
Elect/Elect delivered one of the more convincing performances of the day, seeing off Business Administration with two quickfire goals in the second half. Michael (Assist: Tobi) broke the deadlock in the 54th minute, and before Business Admin could recover, Jokey (Assist: John) doubled the lead four minutes later.
- CVE and Microbiology Deliver a Three-Goal Thriller
CVE got the better of Microbiology in a 2-1 win, with Huncho and Chidera (Assist: JAGO) making their mark on the scoresheet. CBK pulled one back for Microbiology, but it wasn’t enough to turn the game around.
- Goalless Stalemate Between Physics and ESM
The only game without a goal came between Physics and ESM, as both teams canceled each other out in a cagey affair. It wasn’t for a lack of effort, but neither side could find the finishing touch.

What’s Next?
With the first round of matches wrapped up, teams now have a better idea of what they’re up against. The results have set the stage for an exciting tournament, with teams like Philosophy, Elect/Elect, and Accounting starting strong. Meanwhile, those who fell short will be looking to bounce back in the next round.
