Goals Galore: Big Wins and Bold Statements in GW7!

Womens-FootballNWFLfeatured

Gameweek 7 of the 2024/25 NWFL Premiership delivered a flurry of goals, dominant performances, and defining moments as the midseason race heated up. From Bolaji Olamide extending her incredible scoring streak to Rivers Angels running riot, here’s a complete breakdown of all the action across the country.

Group A

• Edo Queens 3-0 Ekiti Queens

Edo Queens showed no mercy in Benin City, sweeping aside Ekiti Queens with a commanding 3-0 win. Chioma Moses opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 12th minute, setting the tone early. After the break, Mary Mamudu doubled the lead in the 56th minute before Kafayat Mafisere sealed the win four minutes later. Edo Queens remain firmly in the title picture, while Ekiti Queens' struggles on the road continue.

• Heartland Queens 3-0 Confluence Queens

Heartland Queens finally claimed their first win of the season, and they did it in style, handing Confluence Queens their seventh straight defeat. Faith Samson wasted no time, scoring in the 2nd minute before Chimebere Opara added a second just eight minutes later. Monica Matthew put the icing on the cake with a well-taken goal in the 76th minute. For Confluence Queens, it’s another bitter outing as they remain rooted at the bottom without a point.

• Remo Stars Ladies 4-0 Nasarawa Amazons

Remo Stars Ladies continue to soar, delivering a crushing 4-0 win over Nasarawa Amazons. Bolaji Olamide struck early in the 10th minute, marking her birthday celebration with her ninth goal in seven games. Kafayat Bashiru added a brace, scoring in the 15th and 50th minutes, before wrapping up her hat-trick in the 78th minute. Following an impressive debut last season, RSL have established themselves as serious contenders in this one. Nasarawa Amazons will again need to regroup after back-to-back defeats. Christopher Danjuma's side are no strangers to this kind of scenario. They pulled off an amazing surge last season to claim the top spot in Group A but while that looks far fetched right now, it is not impossible for them to secure a playoff spot.

• Dannaz Ladies 1-4 Abia Angels

Abia Angels made light work of Dannaz Ladies with a dominant 4-1 win in Lagos. Funmilayo Adefuye started the scoring in the 2nd minute before Mary Lucky stole the show with a hat-trick (33’, 41’, 88’). Opeyemi Awori’s strike on the stroke of halftime gave Dannaz brief hope, but Abia’s attacking prowess proved too much. This win moves Abia Angels up the table, and into the playoff conversation but it's still a little too early to call.

Group B

• FC Robo Queens 1-3 Bayelsa Queens

Bayelsa Queens delivered a statement win in Lagos, toppling FC Robo Queens 3-1. Delight Isaac opened the scoring in the 13th minute, but Favour Nkwocha leveled from the penalty spot in the 37th minute. Just before the break, Alaba Olabiyi restored Bayelsa’s lead and later completed her brace in the 70th minute to secure all three points. This result keeps Bayelsa Queens in the hunt, while FC Robo Queens’ defensive concerns persist.

• Rivers Angels 6-0 Adamawa Queens

Rivers Angels put their northern visitors to the sword, thrashing Adamawa Queens 6-0 in Port Harcourt. Titilayo Aweda started the rout in the 20th minute, followed by Peace Effiong’s brace (24’, 53’). Mary Moses also bagged a hat-trick (37’, 75’, 79’) to complete the demolition. Rivers Angels now boast the biggest win margin of the season, while Adamawa Queens’ poor form away from home deepens their woes.

• Delta Queens 1-0 Ibom Angels

Delta Queens edged Ibom Angels in a tight contest in Asaba, with Princess Adams delivering the decisive strike in the 51st minute. While the margin was modest, Delta’s rise begins to call attention, keeping them within reach of the top spots. For Ibom Angels, their attacking spark from last week faded against a disciplined Delta defense.

• Naija Ratels 1-0 Benue Queens

Benue Queens’ nightmare season continues as they fell 1-0 to Naija Ratels in Abuja. Just when it seemed the visitors might grab their first point of the season, Sofia Bankole broke their hearts with a 90th-minute winner. This result piles more misery on Benue Queens, while Naija Ratels bounce back with a crucial three points.

The NWFL Premiership keeps delivering, and the second half promises even more drama!
