With six weeks of high-octane women's football action wrapped up, attention now shifts to GW7, where top performers hope to continue momentum and poor-performing sides seek to avoid the dreadful bottom-place finish and the "Midseason Curse" that accompanies it.
What’s at Stake?
As the midseason point approaches, every game carries added weight:
- Bolaji Olamide: Can she break the record and keep her scoring streak alive?
- Benue & Confluence Queens: Will either team finally secure their first points?
- Title Contenders: Can Edo Queens, Bayelsa Queens, Rivers Angels and Remo Stars Ladies tighten their grip on the top spots?
There's still plenty of room for shakeups on the league standings before midseason, and fans can expect another round of gripping encounters. Who will rise, and who will falter? GW7 has all the answers!
Here is a quick rundown of what's on the menu tomorrow:
Group A
Edo Queens vs. Ekiti Queens
Edo Queens return to Benin City riding high after their commanding win over Confluence Queens. The defending champions have shown they mean business this season, and they'll look to punish an Ekiti Queens side famous for their struggles on the road. Edo Queens's Goodness Osigwe is the second-highest goalscorer in the league and she would be looking to add to her tally when the visitors make port in Benin. Ekiti Queens, fresh off a narrow 1-0 loss to Abia Angels, are still searching for consistency away from home following a tenth consecutive away defeat in the league. Defensive lapses have haunted them, and against a free-scoring Edo Queens side, they must tighten up or risk another frustrating outing.
Heartland Queens vs. Confluence Queens
This clash in Owerri is for more than just three points—it’s a battle to avoid the bottom. Heartland Queens remain winless after six games, while Confluence Queens are still pointless and are in desperate need of a spark. Heartland’s inability to convert chances cost them in Lafia against the Nasarawa Amazons. Confluence Queens, on the other hand, have been outplayed in nearly every game, and unless they find answers quickly, they could be staring at a seventh consecutive defeat this season. With both sides struggling in the league this season, this could be a scrappy affair where the first goal might decide it all.
Remo Stars Ladies vs. Nasarawa Amazons
This contest pits Remo Stars’ attacking brilliance against Nasarawa’s renewed confidence so you can expect fireworks in Ikenne. Remo Stars Ladies are flying high, with Bolaji Olamide leading the charge. Her goal against Dannaz Ladies extended her remarkable streak to eight goals in six consecutive games. With her eyes set on breaking the league’s scoring record, the Nasarawa Amazons will need to find a way to stop her. The Amazons, however, are coming off a confidence-boosting win against Heartland Queens. Jenat Akekeromowei and Olushola Shobowale found the net in that match, proving they have their own firepower. Building on this renewed confidence, Christopher Danjuma's side would hope to walk into the RSL mansion and turn over the furniture.
Dannaz Ladies vs. Abia Angels
Dannaz Ladies fell 2-0 to Remo Stars Ladies last week, but their defensive shape continues to frustrate opponents. At home, they’ll aim to bounce back against an Abia Angels side riding the momentum of a hard-earned win against the Ekiti Queens. Chiamaka Ojialfor’s strike gave Abia a crucial three points in their last outing, but they’ll need a more organized approach to unlock Dannaz’s stubborn defense. Abia Angels need a win to break into the Playoff slots, while Dannaz cannot afford to slip up with Heartland Queens breathing down their neck. This matchup could go either way, with both teams looking to stay competitive in the group.
Group B
Rivers Angels vs. Adamawa Queens
Rivers Angels host Adamawa Queens after a comfortable 2-0 win over Benue Queens, with Ifeoma Polinus and Mary Moses finding the net. In Port Harcourt, they’ve been tough to beat and will aim to keep the pressure on Group B’s leaders. Adamawa Queens, meanwhile, need a response after their surprising 3-1 loss to Ibom Angels. Loveth Boiygyande remains a bright spot for the visitors, but her goals alone won’t be enough against such a disciplined Rivers Angels side. If Adamawa can shake off their defensive frailties, this could be closer than expected.
Naija Ratels vs. Benue Queens
For Benue Queens, the search for their first point continues. Six losses in six games leave them bottom of the group, and a trip to Abuja against the Naija Ratels will not make things any easier. Naija Ratels pushed Bayelsa Queens to the limit last week but fell short despite Adanna Nwachukwu’s opening goal. With home support behind them, they’ll see this as a perfect chance to return to winning ways. For Benue, it really can't get any worse but if it's ever going to get better, this fixture must feel like a now or never tie.
FC Robo Queens vs. Bayelsa Queens
This clash in Lagos is the pick of the round. In this fixture last season, Opeyemi Ajakaye and Folashade Ijamilusi scored second-half goals before the hour mark to overpower a visiting Bayelsa Queens, who had gone ahead through Rose Ekong in the 22nd minute. The hosts have taken points from all who have visited their Arena this season, and as far as the Lagos Landladies are concerned, rent is due again! FC Robo have also won in their last two home meetings against the visitors and secured a win in 3 of their last five meetings against Bayelsa Queens in the regular season.
FC Robo Queens need a lift after a 4-1 thrashing by Delta Queens. Despite Favour Nkwocha’s late penalty, they never really threatened Asaba’s dominant side. Against Bayelsa Queens, they face another stern test. Bayelsa Queens showed their fighting spirit by completing a comeback against Naija Ratels in just six minutes. Dooshima Tarnum and Delight Isaac were the heroes then, and their cutting edge could cause problems for a sometimes frail FC Robo defense. With both teams chasing the top spots, expect a fiercely contested battle in Lagos.
Delta Queens vs. Ibom Angels
Delta Queens delivered a second-half masterclass last week, scoring four goals to compound FC Robo Queens woes. Destiny Itobor’s brace took Delta Queens goal tally to eight goals this season, and they’ll be eager to add more against Ibom Angels. Ibom Angels, meanwhile, enjoyed their own goal rush, putting three past Adamawa Queens. Ijeoma Oneawgba, Abasiofon Uwah, and Hellen Daniel all found the net, proving they have options in attack. However, Delta’s home form makes them strong favorites, and Ibom must be at their sharpest to avoid being overrun.
