Matchday 4 of the 2024/25 NWFL Premiership is here, with key fixtures across the country as teams fight for crucial points. Defending champions, Edo Queens, storm Lagos for a clash with Dannaz Ladies, while Bayelsa Queens look to continue their title charge against Adamawa Queens.
This season has produced 62 goals so farβthe most in the past three top-flight seasons at this stage. Notably, 58.06% of those goals have come in the second half, a trend only surpassed in 2021/22 (58.97%). This implies that we could be in for more late drama in GW4!
Here are EIGHT interesting things to watch out for this week:
1. Can Naija Ratels Overcome Their Away Struggles?
Naija Ratels face FC Robo Queens in Lagos, hoping to end their poor away form. Since their top-flight promotion in 2020/21, Naija Ratels are about to play a third consecutive away game on GW4. In this period, they have only scored a goal (an own goal vs. Royal Queens) but a more disturbing fact is that, Naija Ratels have won just 1 of their last 14 away games in the league.
Can they turn it around vs FC Robo?
β° Kickoff: 4 PM
ποΈ Venue: Onikan Stadium, Lagos
2. Ibom Angels: Make-or-Break Already?
Last time Ibom Angels were in the top flight, they had 3 points after GW3 and still got relegated with just six points accrued from 14 games. Now they have 1 point and welcome winless Benue Queens.
Can Edwin Okon steer them to safety this time?
β° Kickoff: 4 PM
ποΈ Venue: Uyo Township Stadium, Akwa-Ibom
3. Rivers Angels' Clean Sheet Drought
Since opening #NWFL21 with 3 straight clean sheets, Rivers Angels havenβt kept any in their first 3 games of any season. Would birthday girl Fatima Oloko break that streak in GW4 vs Delta Queens or will the drought continue?
β° Kickoff: 4 PM
ποΈ Stephen Keshi Stadium
4. Pointless Confluence Queens Eye Another Miracle Season
Confluence Queens are currently without a point this season but it's not their first time. In the 2022/23 season, Confluence Queens had 0 points after GW3 fixtures were concluded, and they went on to make the Championship Playoffs. Coach Sabo Okala in his recent call for support per sports247 has been reminiscent of this season and is only looking at the larger picture. Interestingly, in that 2022/23 season, Confluence Queens picked up their first point in GW4 when they faced Abia Angels. They also face Abia Angels in GW4 fixture tomorrow.

5. Hunting Heartland
Heartland Queens are seventh in Group A with one point but the Owerri Ladies are more than ready to walk into RSL Ikenne mansion and turn over the furniture. The last time Heartland had a point at this stage in their topflight campiagn was in the 2022/23 season, and they still finished comfortably above the relegation zone.
Will RSL be a victim of their uprising?
β° Kickoff: 4 PM
ποΈ Venue: Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne
6. Bayelsa Queens Eye Another Statement Win
Bayelsa Queensβ coach Whyte Ogbonda has made it clear: "Nothing but the title will do." They face Adamawa Queens, who just recorded their first win of the season with a hat-trick performance from Afensimi Omon.
Will the Prosperity Girls maintain their strong start?
β° Kickoff: 4 PM
ποΈ Venue: Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa
7. Edo Queens Out to Maintain Top Spot
Edo Queens remain unbeaten and travel to Lagos to face struggling Dannaz Ladies. The champions have set their sights on another away win after last weekβs 1-1 draw at home. With the backing of the Edo State Sports Commission, can they keep their place at the top?
β° Kickoff: 2 PM
ποΈ Venue: Onikan Stadium, Lagos
8. Nasarawa Amazons vs. Ekiti Queens
Both teams sit on 6 points, and a win could potentially take either side to the top spot in Group A given the outcome of other fixtures. Last season, both teams had contrasting fortunes with Nasarawa Amazons comfortably making the playoffs and the visitors staying up by the skin of their teeth, but this time, Ekiti Queens come in with confidence after a strong couple weeks in the new season.
