NWFL Championship: Promotion Race Concluded as Imo Striker Queens Seal Final Spot

The battle for promotion to the NWFL Premiership reached its climax in Abia State today, with Imo Striker Queens clinching the final ticket after a commanding 2–0 victory over Ghetto Tigers.

Anoke James opened the scoring in the 37th minute, before Chiamaka Damian’s 77th-minute strike sealed the win and confirmed Imo’s place in the top flight.

Earlier in the week, CastMog Ladies and Ahudiyannem Queens joined Sunshine Queens as the first three teams to secure promotion, leaving one spot up for grabs on the final Matchday.

Despite falling 1–0 to Gallant Queens, CastMog Ladies still topped their group with six points earned from their opening two games. For Ahudiyannem, a 1–1 draw against Wazbak was enough to see them through as Group B1 leaders. Kenechukwu Eze had given Ahudiyannem the lead before Sofia Hassan’s equaliser kept Wazbak level.

A successful journey for Ann Chijiene, head coach of Ahudiyannem Queens, and Super Falcons goalkeeper coach.

Elsewhere, Pelican Stars edged Chosen Generation Angels 1–0 courtesy of Glory Chukwu’s decisive strike, while Osun Babes handed Ghetto Tigers a heavy 4–1 defeat. Zainab Salaudeen struck twice, with Adeola Omowodun and Victory Odanlumen also on target. Ebube Jude scored Ghetto Tigers’ lone consolation

With the curtain now closed on the NWFL Championship, Sunshine Queens, Ahudiyannem Queens, CastMog Ladies, and Imo Striker Queens have all earned their places in next season’s NWFL Premiership, setting the stage for an exciting campaign in Nigeria’s top women’s league.
