BEYOND THE BREAK

TheNWFL Returns.

Womens-FootballNWFL

After a two-week break, the 2024/25 NWFL Premiership is back, and with the second half of the season now set to get underway, the margins for error are smaller than ever.

In our previous analytical posts on the journey so far, based on what the data revealed, we opined that, barring any surprises, there is only a slot left on each group for the Championship Playoffs and the journey to fill up that slot starts March 19. Gameweek 8 promises intense battles across both groups.

ICYMI: Read Our Midseason Analytics Post

Here's what to expect after the midseason reset.

Group A

  • Ekiti Queens vs Edo Queens (Ilorin)

Ekiti Queens play their first game in Ilorin, hoping the venue change won’t disrupt their impressive home form. However, they face an Edo Queens side that hasn’t trailed in a single match this season. The visitors know how to control games early, making it a tough test for Ekiti.

  • Confluence Queens vs Heartland Queens (Lokoja)

Confluence Queens are still searching for their first point of the season. Heartland Queens, fresh off their first win in GW7, will see this as an opportunity to climb further away from the danger zone. With both sides struggling for consistency, this could be a scrappy affair.

  • Nasarawa Amazons vs Remo Stars Ladies (Lafia)

Nasarawa Amazons had a difficult first stanza, but they’ve recovered from slow starts in previous seasons. That said, they now face league leaders Remo Stars Ladies, who have been ruthless in attack. Bolaji Olamide has had a headstart in the first half of the season and she is currently chasing another goal to extend her record streak. She is now on the heels of history, chasing Gift Monday's goal record in her explosive regular season campaign, alongside Rofiat Sule and Amarachi Orjinma, who hold the Golden Boot record for 17 goals in a single campaign. Can the Amazons pull off an upset at home or will Bolaji and RSL pick up from where they left off?

  • Abia Angels vs Dannaz Ladies (Umuahia)

Abia Angels have been one of the most impressive teams this season, and a win here would further boost their playoff hopes. Dannaz Ladies, on the other hand, have been inconsistent and need to find stability if they want to avoid slipping into the relegation battle.

Group B

  • Bayelsa Queens vs FC Robo Queens (Yenagoa)

Both teams are in the playoff mix, making this a crucial fixture. FC Robo have been one of the league’s top-performing sides but remain shaky at the back. Bayelsa Queens, fresh off a big win over Robo in Lagos, will be looking for another dominant display at home.

  • Adamawa Queens vs Rivers Angels (Numan)

Adamawa Queens play in a new home venue, but will that be enough to stop high-flying Rivers Angels? The Port-Harcourt side dismantled Adamawa 6-0 in their last meeting and will be looking to continue their dominant run. The hosts must find a way to tighten up defensively to avoid another chastening defeat.

  • Delta Queens vs Ibom Angels (Asaba)

Delta Queens got a crucial win last time out, but their attacking struggles remain a concern. Ibom Angels, one of the league’s early scorers, could cause problems if they start fast. Expect a closely contested match as both teams try to build momentum.

  • Naija Ratels vs Benue Queens (Abuja)

Benue Queens are still searching for their first points of the season and face a Naija Ratels side known for its resilience. The Ratels have made a habit of both winning from losing positions and dropping points from winning positions, so anything could happen in this one. With Benue Queens desperate to get off the mark, will this finally be the game where they break their losing streak?
