As the 2024/25 NWFL Premiership season rolled into Gameweek 5, the action across the country delivered drama, missed opportunities, and hard-fought points.
Here's a summary of what went down today across the country:
• FC Robo Queens 2-1 Ibom Angels
FC Robo Queens returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Ibom Angels in Lagos. Mariam Yahaya broke the deadlock in the 68th minute before an unfortunate own goal from Godsgift Afigbediotor doubled the home side’s lead. Ugobest Osuji pulled one back for Ibom Angels in the 84th minute, but it was already a little too late and proved to be nothing more than a consolation.
• Ekiti Queens 2-0 Confluence Queens
Ekiti Queens secured a crucial win at home, handing Confluence Queens their fifth defeat of the season. Rashidat Salau opened the scoring in the 55th minute, and Patience Yaro sealed the win in stoppage time. Confluence Queens’ struggles continue, and with Edo Queens up next, it only gets tougher for them.
• Adamawa Queens 2-0 Benue Queens
Adamawa Queens got an early grip on the game in Gombe, scoring twice in the first eight minutes. Loveth Boiygyande and Mary Nnenna Ossai found the net to ensure a comfortable win over Benue Queens. The visitors failed to respond, and Adamawa claimed their second victory of the season. Benue Queens face a stern test when welcome Rivers Angels to Lafia next week.
• Naija Ratels 1-1 Delta Queens
Naija Ratels and Delta Queens played out a 1-1 draw in Abuja, with both goals coming inside the opening ten minutes. Bunmi Oladeji gave Ratels an early lead in the 7th minute, but Ifobere Destiny equalized just two minutes later. The game had its biggest talking point in the 80th minute when Naija Ratels were awarded a penalty, but Delta Queens’ goalkeeper came up with a big save to keep the scores level.
• Remo Stars Ladies 2-0 Abia Angels
Remo Stars Ladies continued their impressive start to the season with a 2-0 win over Abia Angels in Ikenne. Bolaji Olamide converted from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute and doubled her tally in the 85th minute. Bolaji has now scored in five consecutive games in the league and is just one shy of the official record for last season's golden boot winner. RSL have now won three straight games, keeping their place among the top sides in Group A.
• Heartland Queens 0-0 Dannaz Ladies
There was no breakthrough in Owerri as Heartland Queens and Dannaz Ladies played out a goalless draw. Both teams had chances but failed to capitalize, with goalkeepers on both ends making crucial saves. Heartland Queens are still searching for their first win of the season, while Dannaz Ladies continue to prove they can hold their own in the top flight.
• Rivers Angels 1-1 Bayelsa Queens
The South-South derby ended in a 1-1 draw in Port Harcourt. Rivers Angels struck first through Peace Effiong in the 10th minute, but Bayelsa Queens responded with Zainab Olapade’s equalizer in the 27th minute. The home side had a golden chance to regain the lead early in the second half when they were awarded a penalty, but Aminat Folorunsho’s spot kick was saved. Both teams battled hard, but neither could find the winning goal.
• Edo Queens 2-0 Nasarawa Amazons
Edo Queens bounced back from their draw against Dannaz Ladies with a solid 2-0 win over Nasarawa Amazons in Benin City. Mary Mamudu put the hosts ahead in the 23rd minute before Goodness Osigwe doubled the advantage two minutes later. Edo Queens controlled the game and secured another three points to remain among the frontrunners.
